FREE Resources for Rugby Players, Coaches, and Support Staff

Welcome back for another weekly blog post! Today, we’ll be continuing off a post we made on social media last week and diving into the organization that issued the certification, World Rugby. Whether you’re a player, coach, or any support staff involved in the rugby world, stay tuned because there’s a good amount of resources to be used here to learn. If you follow the World Rugby link provided above, you’ll be taken to a page where there’s a drop down menu at the top listing “Passport Site.” We’ll be talking about the resources listed here.

For those maybe just getting into rugby or are a newer fan, “Rugby Ready” is the perfect resource for you! This resource will take you through a comprehensive module that will cover everything from an introduction to the sport, player warm-up, how the game is played, injury management for rugby and so on. Even current players or those familiar with the sport can learn something from this all encompassing module. Furthermore, should you choose to, there’s a test that can be taken and upon completion grant you a certificate from World Rugby about awareness of the sport. We recommend this module to new players, families of new players, or those who just want to learn more about the sport.

For the Rugby players, coaches, and medical staff out there, take a look at the “Strength and Conditioning” resource and “Player Welfare” resources. The “Strength and Conditioning” resource delivers a comprehensive conditioning program for coaches to follow as a way to help build up the athletic abilities of their players. Players can learn from this regime as well if it’s something they would like to work on independently. If you’re a strength coach who is looking for a rugby specific approach, we definitely recommend you checking this module out. Players and coaches looking into proper health and welfare look into the “Player Welfare” resource. Here, one can learn about concussions, how certain injuries are treated and how to prevent them, resources for the mental health of players, and much more. For players it is important to educate yourselves on the medical risks that can occur with rugby as well as when to seek help. For coaches it’s important to recognize some of the signs of potential injury and mental health of your players so you can communicate with your medical staff on how to best address the needs of your players.

World Rugby has a multitude of resources listed under their “Passport Site” and what we listed today only scratches the surface of the information that one can learn from here. Let it serve as a resource for yourself, or for someone who you would think would benefit. That’s all for today!
